Eighteen premiere Winery, Brewery, Distillery, Cidery & Chocolate Tasting Rooms dot the Rappahannock landscape. The Skyline Tasting Trail is the prettiest tasting trail in Virginia. Rappahannock is nicknamed Sonoma of the South by Virginia Living Magazine and Sonoma East by the Washington Post. The award-winning tasting rooms here are loaded with world-class wine, good food options, friendly crews and spectacular Blue Ridge mountain views. Take I-66 to Gainesville exit 43A then to Warrenton. Skyline Tasting Trail starts about 40 minutes west of Washington D.C. on Route 211 just west of Warrenton. Follow the signs to Shenandoah National Park. The Tasting Rooms are in driving order (mostly) — East to West on Route 211 and on your cell phone.

A nano system is small enough to debut new suds every week!

The story of Copper Fox Distillery begins many years ago with how much owner Rick Wasmund loved the smell of burning wood. Rick’s discovery that he wanted something that did not exist, and the revelation that he could make a great American Single Malt Whisky struck a cord! Spirits at Copper Fox Distillery focus on the flavoring of the malt using the smoke of selected, smoldering fruit woods, and hand-cut, toasted fruit wood that add a range of natural flavors in the maturation process.

Pen Druid Fermentation

Pen Druid Fermentation is a 27-acre permaculture operation at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Brothers Lain, Van and Jennings Carney started Pen Druid in 2015 with Jonathan Staples after touring North America and Europe in the psych-rock band Pontiak. Pen Druid focuses on native yeast and spontaneous fermentation of beer using traditional methods employed in Belgium and Germany with the use of a coolship and a wood-fired brewhouse.

Hopkins Ordinary Ale Works

Hopkins Ordinary Ale Works is proud to brew small batch craft beer in the cellar of Hopkins Ordinary Bed and Breakfast. Small batch craft beer is made using local barley malted by neighbors at Copper Fox Distillery. All Ale Works beers are unfiltered and contain no artificial preservatives. Local, seasonal ingredients such as hops, honey, fruit, and herbs are infused using a one-barrel brewhouse, Hopkins makes a variety of beers over the course of the year.

Apple Atcha Cider

The old Estes Mill has been renovated and in it's new addition Apple Atcha Cider, heirloom apples are pressed to ferment cider. One may enjoy several flavors of cider in the stone-walled downstairs of this old mill. The second floor of the mill is home of the new historically important dulcimer museum, which houses a world-renowned collection of instruments and artifacts. Sharp Rock Vineyards

Sharp Rock Farm was established in the late 1700’s as a working family farm and it continues that tradition today with vineyards, winery, and Bed & Breakfast cottages. The first vineyards were planted in 1992 consisting of Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc with additions soon after of Merlot, Malbec, and Sauvignon Blanc. More recently, plantings of Petit Verdot and Vidal were added. It is from these eight varietals that twelve estate wines are handcrafted.

With careful tending of the vineyard and exacting knowledge of the cellar, Rappahannock Cellars strives to create rich, supple and elegant wines. 25 years ago the Delmare family moved from their winery in Santa Cruz California to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Many wineries are family-owned, but not many can brag about their children (ages 9 to 14) working joyfully on their hands and knees. This vineyard has been tended by the six oldest children; it is currently tended by three in the middle; and awaiting the youngest three, who can’t wait to give it a try.
